History

Kaohsiung Medical University is centrally located in northern Kaohsiung. Established in 1954, it is Taiwan’s first private medical school. The School of Pharmacy was created in 1957 and later expanded into the first Taiwanese College of Pharmacy in 1999.

  • Before the formal establishment of the College of Pharmacy, the school established the first private School of Pharmacy in 1957.
  • In 1982, a Master’s program was initiated followed by a Ph.D program in 1988.
  • Soon after, the Graduate Institute of Natural Products was set-up in 1992.
  • Culminating in the inauguration of the first College of Pharmacy in Taiwan on August 1, 1999.
  • Two years later, a Ph.D Program was added to the Graduate Institute of Natural Products in 2001.
  • In 2003,the Department of Fragrance and Cosmetic Science was formed and the Graduate Institute of Clinical Pharmacy the following year in 2004.
  • The Department of Fragrance and Cosmetic Science expanded to include a Master’s program in 2007.
  • The Ph.D Degree Program in Toxicology was put in place in 2011 with the Master’s Degree Program in Toxicology coming later in 2018.

Today, the College of Pharmacy includes the School of Pharmacy (offering Bachelor, Master’s, and Ph.D degrees as well as an in-service Master’s degree and a Master’s degree in Clinical Pharmacy), and the the Department of Fragrance and Cosmetic Science (offering bachelor and Master’s degrees), the Graduate Institute of Natural Products (offering Master’s and Ph.D degrees), in addition to our Master’s Degree Program and Ph.D Degree Program in Toxicology.
